About Mt. Shasta

Mt. Shasta is one of those rare places that people visit once and never quite stop thinking about. The mountain — a dormant stratovolcano rising to 14,179 feet — dominates the horizon in every direction, and the town that shares its name has built an identity around that presence. It's a place of outdoor adventure, spiritual community, health-conscious culture, and genuine small-town warmth.

Lifestyle & Recreation

Mt. Shasta Ski Park operates on the mountain's flank and is a local institution. In summer, Bunny Flat and other trailheads fill with hikers, climbers, and mountain bikers. Castle Lake and Lake Siskiyou are both within a short drive and offer swimming, fishing, and kayaking. The Pacific Crest Trail passes through the area.

The town supports a surprisingly diverse dining and wellness scene for its size — including multiple good restaurants, a weekly farmers market, and the famous Black Bear Diner (headquartered here).
