A quiet Shasta Valley community minutes from Yreka's services — agricultural character, affordable prices, and open country in every direction.
Shasta Valley residential and agricultural properties with easy access to Yreka services.
Montague is a small city in the Shasta Valley, about 6 miles east of Yreka on Hwy 3. It has the practical advantage of being close to everything Yreka offers — hospital, retail, schools — while maintaining its own quiet, small-town identity. The surrounding Shasta Valley is classic Northern California high-desert grassland: open, windy, and beautiful in its own austere way, with Mt. Shasta and the Cascades visible to the south.
Montague tends to offer slightly lower prices than Yreka proper, making it attractive for buyers who want Yreka's proximity without Yreka's prices. The housing stock is a mix of older in-town homes, manufactured homes on land, and agricultural parcels outside the city limits.
Montague has a small downtown with a few local businesses, but residents primarily use Yreka for grocery shopping, medical care, and most services. The Shasta Valley is open and exposed — winters can be cold and windy. The area is generally at lower fire risk than forested communities, which can be a positive for insurance.
Montague is also home to the Yreka Western Railroad, a heritage short line that runs excursions seasonally.
