One of Siskiyou County's smallest and most remote communities — high-elevation ranching country in Butte Valley near the Oregon border, where the land stretches wide and the sky goes on forever.
Ranch land, agricultural parcels, and rural homes in the high Butte Valley.
Macdoel is one of the most sparsely populated communities in Siskiyou County, set in the broad, flat Butte Valley at about 4,000 feet elevation. It's ranching and farming country on the edge of the Cascade Range — stark, open, and beautiful in a way that rewards those who appreciate wide horizons and genuine quiet. The Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge is nearby, and views of Mt. Shasta to the south are spectacular from the valley floor.
Macdoel is primarily of interest to buyers seeking ranch land, agricultural acreage, or very affordable rural property with complete privacy. Residential options in town itself are limited. Agricultural parcels in Butte Valley can be significant in size and value depending on water rights and irrigation infrastructure.
Water rights are often the most valuable asset in Butte Valley agricultural land — evaluate carefully before purchasing.
Macdoel has very limited services — expect to drive to Dorris or Yreka for groceries and most needs. Cell and internet service is very limited. The high elevation means significant snowfall and cold winters. This community is best suited for buyers who truly want off-grid or agricultural rural living and are prepared for self-sufficiency.
